An honest look at family finances

Here are 10 things I’ve seen around my neighborhood that I believe are due to the state of the economy. Please share anything that you have noticed in your life.
1. Front parking spaces at almost any retailer…
2. Except for Costco. Costco is packed.
3. Improved customer service.
4. Brand new BMW parked in an empty lot with a hand written for sale sign.
5. More stray pets.
6. Foreclosure signs in my neighborhood.
7. No waiting for a table at the most popular steak house in town…
8. But the local pizza place is packed.
9. Dads at the park in the middle of the day…during the week.
10. Larger clearance sections in the store.

I’ve definitely noticed the better customer. On the phone yesterday with a centurytel csr and he was great! Went through the monthly bill and he showed me how I could save $5/month just be moving some stuff around. Haven’t noticed the restaurant waiting though. Seems to be as busy as ever here in WI.
We’ve noticed reduced waiting time as well. We don’t have any foreclosure signs in our neighborhood, but there are A LOT of homes for sale. I wonder if any of those signs will change to foreclosure signs…We’ve been lucky with the job situation here — our metro area only has 4% unemployment for now.
Yes less cars on the road, more spots in lots and restaurants are more empty. Our costco is less crowded too, it’s almost bearable now. Almost.
My neighborhood is plagued with wandering cats and dogs, no change there. Empty houses are something I’ve noticed, the house next door is vacant and the one across the street from it as well. I don’t know what happened with the house next door, perhaps it was a foreclosure.
That’s strange, because the mall parking lots are full here, and there are still waits at restaurants.
that picture is awesome! good find…and great list
Parking lots here are totally full, and every restaurant I go to (from $$$$ to McDonalds) is always jammed. There are no foreclosures that I’ve seen in my town, and only a few I’ve seen during our house search process.
I guess I haven’t really noticed any changes at all….
If anything things seem MORE busy now than before.
