I don't love any specific store, supermarket, etc. What I really love are low prices, if I find them in Wallmart / SAMs.....I love Wallmart / SAMs!!!

A long time ago I had a membership to Sam's Club (there was no other store of that kind in town). What I discovered was that the prices in Sam's Club were pretty much exactly the same as the ones in Wal-Mart per unit. The difference was that you could buy a bigger container of whatever at Sam's Club. A 24-ounce something at Sam's Club was the same price as two 12-ounce somethings at Wal-Mart, so why pay the extra for membership? There were some things available at Sam's Club I didn't find at Wal-Mart, but nothing that was worth paying the extra for a membership.

I do not think wal-mart making small businesses their customer negates taking away their ability to make a reasonable living income. Just because the small businesses may be buying plates, or auto insurance or financial services from them, does not mean that wal-mart isn't "stealing" customers from them who would otherwise be purchasing clothing, food, furniture or appliances. I would also like to see hard data on who these small businesses are - i think pretty much anyone can be a "small business" under wal-mart's membership guidelines.

Been shopping at both places for over 10yrs and Costco definately have a higher qulaity in products than Sam's.
Too bad neigher of them have Dental service, I was trying to start a Costco dental service with Costco 10yrs. ago but did not get any response from management. Let mt know if any of your reader wants this service, I might try again to market the idea to them.

Good post thank you for this.. however the ..."...besides feeling like you walked into a bad neighborhood, in a third world country.." comment is out of line and is a sad display of todays society. I think this person needs to go to a third world country for a reality check. Boo!

Costco is by far better then sams, Costco has better brands and more organic items then Sams. Most of all the Sams Clubs are hurting because Costco is beating them out and more people are shopping at Costco rather then Sams. I LOVE COSTCO

WOW. I can't believe how stupid half of you are by defending Wal-Mart. I am a former Wal-Mart employee and I will never in my life shop there again. They try to find ways to fire their employees that have been there a long time so that they don't have to pay them. They don't hire full-time cashiers, they give back about .0000001% of profits to communities. They're crooked, selfish, and immoral. I agree, watch 'The high cost of low prices' with an open mind and see things for how they REALLY are. That is, if you can successfully pull your heads out of your asses.

If you can't afford to shop anywhere else, then get a real job. You'd have to be pretty poor to only be able to afford Wal-Mart. Their products are crap anyway. While each of you is there spending thousands of dollars a year there, another small business folds. Just wait until Wal-Mart is the last one standing (as they have publicly stated that they intend to do). You'll all be wishing you shopped elsewhere when they charge you $40 dollars for an umbrella because they're the only business left and can jack up their prices. Yeah, a smaller store charges more for their items, but they don't get them in bulk of probably millions. They're prices are higher for a reason, moron. And it's not so they can line thier pockets with $18 billion then not even give back 1% to charities. While all of you tight-wads are trying to save a few bucks to spend on God knows what, you are absolutely killing the economy. Congratulations.

P.S. when you need to use foul language to get your point across, everyone can tell how under-educated and trashy you really are. I guess Wal-Mart is fitting for someone like you.

Also happier employees equals happy customers. Sam's does not have alot of happy employees due to the awful pay and insurance so they may not be as happy to work and that can affect customers.

I work for Sam's and sadly I think Costco is better. They have better quality than Sam's. My husband use to work for Costco and he said there bakery goods are made mostly from scratch, where Sam's is not. I work in the bakery and my opinion is Sam's is cheap and they try to have the same quality but can not compare. Also the value for there employees sucks vs. Costco my husdand was make very good money as a meat associate. Unfortunatly we dont live near a Costco or I would try a job there.

Thanks for doing the comparison. This was obviously done grabbing comparative 'branded' products. The difference between Member's Mark (Sams') and Kirkland (Costco's) is a lot more dramatic than the 2% difference from those branded ítems.
