An honest look at family finances
11 Mar
Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned that I rearranged our house and made an office in the walk-in closet of the spare room? No? Well, I did.
At the time I had promised some before and after pics. So here they are….
Here is the family room before. Not so great huh? OMG the cords drove me absolutely nuts. And you can’t see them in the picture but the cords under the computer are just a rat’s nest. Just so you have an idea of the room, a couch faces the computer and the whole room is open to the kitchen. The kitchen is behind the camera. To the left is the living room. The whole downstairs makes an L shape.
Here is the after. Ahhh… so much better! It looks like a room in someone’s house instead of some weird office/ waiting room. I know I need something in that empty spot on the left, but I don’t know what I want to put there. Maybe you have an idea? And also to touch up that nice white spot above the bookcase. I do have touch up paint, I just haven’t done it.
The bookcase came in from the living room, which actually made that room look better. I moved the toy box that was in that corner to the other side of the room and the bottom shelves became extra toy storage. Which we desperately needed. We had to buy the little TV stand but got the money from stuff we sold while decluttering. Actually, we made $60 and the stand was only $40.
There is a widow behind the door so there is natural light in there, and plenty of storage on the top shelf of the closet. It’s not big but it fits everything we need. Best of all… it’s so quiet in there. The kids can be going nuts downstairs, or even upstairs, and you can hear a thing in the office. Which was the number one problem with the computer in the family room. Unless both kids were asleep you couldn’t make a move without them climbing all over you.
So that’s it. I would say it took one whole weekend with both of us working on it to complete the project. But we love it. It was totally worth the efforts.
