An honest look at family finances
6 Feb
Happy Birthday! When I started this blog I committed to doing it for one year. You can read my very first post right here. (But please don’t. Ug.) Now that a year has gone by there is no way I’m stopping now.
I know my site is still small compared to some, but it’s way bigger than I ever thought it would be. And I only have you, my readers, to thank. If it weren’t for you guys I would be talking to myself over here. I have learned so much from all of you. I’ve learned more from you than you have from me, I’m sure of it. You have forced me to think in new ways, sometimes against my will. I hope I’ve done the same for you.
Another thing this blog has forced upon me is reading. Oh the reading! I could lock myself in a room for 24 hours and do nothing but read and I still wouldn’t be caught up. I read for post ideas. I read for post research. I read to keep up with my friends and their sites. I read, and read, and read. And the information does eventually sink into my head and melt into my real life in some surprising ways. I’m a different person than I was a year ago. I can look back to times I thought we were being smart with our money and see all kinds of missed opportunities. But no more. Because of my blog and my readers I will be ever vigilant from now on.
Here are the top posts from our first year together…
February: The day I gave up my stuff
March: Against the grain
April: Evolution of a budget
May: Millionaires drive minivans
June: Saying No to your kids
July: A trip to Costco
August: Green Living: Solar Power
September: 5 easy ways to increase your savings
October: A Frugal Halloween: Homemade Costumes
November: 10 Tips to Get Your House Sold

Happy bloggyversary! i’m a relatively new reader, and I like what I see!
Happy birthday!!
Congrats Ashley! Seems like you’ve come a long way. Good for you.
I’m curious about your tax refund. Are you still subscribing to the same method as you wrote about in your first post? My wife and I will get a return of just over $3000 this year and we’re starting to think that it’s getting a bit high. We will probably adjust our withholdings this year to bring it down a bit. Or should we just keep “loaning” it to the gov. and enjoy the big refund?
